Something that would help make this season easier to digest, but I'm afraid I don't. The New York Knicks are 4th in the worst division in the NBA, and 5 games below .500. Isiah Thomas needs to step up and discipline and coach this team, and Stephon Marbury needs to become a leader on this team.

Wish I could have jumped in sooner

I was too busy to get a chance to blog my delight at our win -- on the road, no less -- over the Memphis Grizzlies. And since then we haven't had such cheerful news. Still on the road, we got beat by the Atlanta Hawks. Friday night's game against the Philadelphia 76ers was a preseason game, of course. But it was a great reminder of why people love watching NBA basketball and why they invest in tickets to go in person to scream and holler from the stands. The game was tied at the half, the Knicks were ahead by 2 at the third quarter...and then there was the drama just before the final buzzer.

Nice to have a couple of W's even if they are preseason stats. I have been following the Dallas Mavericks through the Playoffs and I have been impressed every step of the way. I chose them because they have never won a championship and because of what Avery Johnson has done with them this year and last.
They got past the reigning champs and the Phoenix Suns which were great feats in themselves. Last night they made beating the Miami Heat look so easy. There was never a question as to who was going to win that game. Dirk dominated them in so many ways and Shaq didn’t know what to do with Dirk on the double team. Avery made some good choices. The Mavericks have won the two most crucial games thus far. Now they just have to prove they can do the same on the road, which they have done before.

Sometimes they say it before it’s really true.

There are a lot of rumors floating around about the New York Knicks parting with Larry Brown. LeBron James put up 35 points for the struggling Cavs yet our defense held the rest of the squad to very few comeback points and finished the game 92-84. We then went on to battle the Atlanta Hawks and came out on top 105-94. I have to admit the New York Knicks have looked pretty good lately and they are in fact on a six game winning streak that includes two overtime victories. It is nice to see them pull themselves out of the slump they were in but that fact has me wondering how long the good times will last.

James Suspended and Hardaway Away

Isiah Thomas, the New York Knicks President of Basketball Operations announced on January 2nd that Jerome James has been suspended. The suspension is due to conduct detrimental to the team and not being prepared to practice on Sunday. They will not release any more information about the matter. James has had some injury related problems that have made him a disappointment at best for this team who needed a good player at the center position. We were shooting very poorly and the Magic defense was pulling down a lot of rebounds and forced a lot of turnovers. This is our ninth loss in ten games and this season has just taken a downward spiral. Jamal Crawford put forth a good individual effort and was the reason we got as close as we did, but was alone on the court. There just isn’t any chemistry between players on the New York Knicks team. I have been thinking it a long time but after our losses to the Suns, Milwaukee, and the Magic I don’t see us pulling a winning record out of our hat. The New York Knicks are having a hard time out there and players like Eddy Curry and Quentin Richardson are scoring in the low double digits. They seem to play well as individuals sometimes but never well as a team. Whether you think it’s a complete lack of defense or the failure of our offense, you have to admit that these Knicks players are not playing up to their potential.

Knicks Give Clippers the Floor

The New York Knicks are floundering out there on the court. With less than ten wins for the season, this fan is getting worried that we are not going to have the great season we had thought we would have after the draft. The Clippers victory over the Knicks threw our shortcomings into sharp reality. They were blocking many of our shots and dominated on offense by going to the basket over and over until they held the lead for the majority of the game. The Clippers are leading their division with a 13-5 record but the Knicks could have beat them if we’d played as a team and strengthened our defense.

Our Brightest Stars - Frye and Crawford

Channing Frye was named the Rookie of the Month for the NBA’s Eastern Conference and showed his true colors in the New York Knicks win over the Chicago Bulls. Jamal Crawford scored a season high 28 points in this game and Frye’s season high was scored in free throws. Those free throws were key to our second half domination of the Bulls defense. The two made many great plays in that second quarter, notably Crawford’s fast break to the basket only to pass behind his back to Trevor Ariza for a dunk. We’ll be counting on our two best players in our next games against Detroit, Boston and Seattle.

Knicks Can’t Stop the Three

The Knicks kicked off the holiday season by sending a Jamal Crawford and a few teammates to serve food at a food bank in Harlem. It is nice to see our New York Knicks participating in community activities. Young kids can look up to players who take the time to give back to the city that supports them. Unfortunately we followed it up with a loss to the Charlotte Bobcats but effort off the court is just as powerful as effort on the court and we can come back from this loss. The Bobcats were shooting well from the three point line and hustled for a lot of big plays. We can make up for this loss with a win in the upcoming game with the Philadelphia Sixers.

The End of Our Slump?

The win over the Sacramento Kings 105-95 was the New York Knicks first win and a great showing of the talent this team has if they could only use it. Channing Frye the rookie from Arizona showed amazing effort scoring 19 points with the Knicks shooting 56 percent in the first two quarters. Sacramento were off their game getting close in the last minutes but Eddy Curry and Jamal Crawford both scored in the teens to out score and out maneuver the kings all the way to the end. The question being; who is better Shaquille O’Neal or Wilt Chamberlin?

Now before anyone decides to answer this question, one should take time to think about it. To think about all the factors that comes into play.

For one I am not a big fan of Shaq but the man is very good at what he does and will some day join Wilt in the Basketball Hall of Fame.

But consider it was two different eras and two different styles. So what do these 4 teams have in common with the New York Knickerbockers?

Well the Knicks had 32 regular season sellouts, which puts them in the top 5 in that category along with the teams from above. A quartet of talented college players working out for the team. Even with this busy plethora of goings-on going on, there was a whole lot of Phil Jackson conversation as Knicks President, Basketball Operations Isiah Thomas talked to the media on Thursday at the team’s Madison Square Training Center.

Still, Thomas understood. “When you look at the resumes and the body of work he’s put together, Phil, along with Larry Brown, is a cut above,” smiled Thomas. “I don’t think anyone else coaching today can talk about being at that level. Other guys out there are real good, but Phil…It’s like myself when I was a player. I was good -- but I wasn’t Michael Jordan.”

Jackson, of course, may choose another team -- or not coach anywhere next season. “I think he’s still trying to decide about those things,” said Thomas. “I think he’s been pretty up front about his health and his energy. He’s been up front with us and with everyone else. Phil’s a pretty deep thinker -- and he’s got a lot to think about in terms of where he’ll live, the length of what may be his last contract, his legacy, and all those other factors.” In reality, “we, meaning the people trying to hire him, are probably more concerned with his legacy than he is,” said Thomas. “We talk about legacy. But that word actually never came out of his mouth.”

“He’ll take his time,” added Thomas. “And you want a guy like him to take his time and make the right decision for himself.”

“I got the sense that wherever he decides to go, he’ll put all his heart and energy into it. I don’t think rebuilding really comes into it all that much. The Lakers didn’t make the playoffs and neither did we. Or Cleveland, or Minnesota. So wherever he ends up, it’s going to be dirty work. But yes, it’s safe to say that New York holds a special place for him.”

When Thomas and Jackson met, “we talked about players, we talked about personnel,” said Thomas. “But any coach that we hire, any coach that we’ll have, will have a say-so in personnel. Phil, and everyone else, understands where we are.”

“I think that there will be a second meeting with Phil Jackson,” added Thomas. “However, in the meanwhile let’s not forget that there are other attractive candidates. And we have talked, and will be talking, with a number of them.”

“There are some very good coaches out there,” said Thomas. “(Ex-Minnesota Timber Wolves mentor) Flip Saunders has definitely proven he’s one of those guys.”

Thomas again maintained his strong interest in Herb Williams, who along with assistant coach Michael Malone are taking part in all the pre-draft workouts. "As you go around and talk to a lot of different coaches, it's important to understand we have a good one here right now," said Thomas. "Herb did a great job for us. And throughout this process, he's been a real pro. The thing that I admire most about Herb Williams that he wore the uniform -- and he placed the Knicks ahead of himself. He wants what's best for the Knicks. I admire him and I thank him for giving us this opportunity to go and talk to people without being unprofessional about it."

“We feel that the Knicks job is a very attractive job,” said Thomas. “We have six draft picks over the next two years and a young core to build upon. Still, it’s going to be dirty work here.” Thus whoever ends up the coach must be fully prepared and ready for that.

Thomas to Coach Again

There is some talk about Isiah Thomas leaving his job as a personal director in New York to coach once more, whether it is in college or the NBA. The most rational spot for him to coach is there is New York, but Thomas is quoted saying that he will never coach the Knicks.

So if Thomas does decide to coach next season the most probable scenario that Thomas himself would like is coaching LeBron James over in Cleveland. Any win was a good win for us at this point," Bryant said with a smile.

New York's Stephon Marbury had a season-high 45 points, six rebounds and 10 assists in defeat. He scored 34 in the second half, shooting 9-of-13 from the floor, including 6-of-7 from 3-point range and 10-of-11 from the foul line.

Marbury wound up making 12 of 22 field goals, including 6-of-8 from beyond the arc and 15 of 16 free throws in falling five points shy of his career high.

"Stephon was incredible, but I'm sure he would trade all of it for the win," teammate Jamal Crawford said.

That seemed to be the case.

"It doesn't matter if you score 50 points or two points," Marbury said. "If you win, that's the most important thing."

The losing streak was the second longest for the Lakers (33-37) since they moved from Minneapolis to Los Angeles in 1960. They lost their last 10 games of the 1993-94 season. That was the last time they failed to qualify for the playoffs, something they seem destined to do this year for just the second time since 1976. They are in 10th place in the Western Conference, and trail Denver for the eighth and final playoff berth by 5½ games with 12 remaining.

"Our playoff hopes are probably very slim at this point," Hamblen said. "We just want to get back to playing good basketball. Maybe we can be a spoiler."

Devean George, playing just his third game of the season, had 18 points and Chucky Atkins scored 12 for the Lakers, who shot 53.4 percent and committed only 10 turnovers two days after committing a season-high 27.

"I'm still a little rusty -- I feel like I've got cement blocks for tennis shoes," said George, who sat out the first 67 games of the season while recovering from offseason ankle surgery. "Everything that could have gone wrong, it seems like, did go wrong this season."

The Lakers, who have had defensive problems all year, are now 7-32 in games where their opponent scores 100 or more points.

The loss was the seventh in 10 games for the Knicks (29-41), who went winless in a four-game road trip to all but mathematically end their playoff hopes.

Kurt Thomas had 18 points and 15 rebounds and Crawford added 16 points and nine assists for the Knicks. Tim Thomas, who scored a season-high 35 in New York's 117-115 overtime victory over the Lakers on Feb. 28 at Madison Square Garden, was held to five points.

"The thing that killed us is we gave up probably 43 points in transition," Knicks coach Herb Williams said. "That's getting back and matching up. Nothing complicated, real simple, we just didn't get back and match up and they ran it down our throat."

Tierre Brown, who shot 5-of-5 for 11 points, scored five during a 7-0 run that gave the Lakers a 99-85 lead with 8½ minutes remaining. The Knicks weren't closer than eight points after that.

Marbury scored five straight to make it 102-94 with 5:25 to play, but Chris Mihm made two baskets -- the first as the shot clock expired -- to put the Lakers ahead by 12 with 4:06 left.

The Lakers led 86-79 entering the fourth quarter. Marbury scored 18 points and Bryant had 13 in the third period, when Los Angeles outscored New York 35-33.

Bryant scored six points and Butler four during a 16-4 run that gave the Lakers a 51-39 lead before the Knicks scored the last seven points of the second quarter to draw within five at halftime.

Knicks Acquire Malik Rose, Maurice Taylor

from the official site of the New York Knickerbockers

New York Knickerbockers President of Basketball Operations Isiah Thomas announced two trades on Thursday. Although we are at the top of our division, we are by no means doing good. We are 4-6 in the last 10 games, which really shouldn't be good enough for us to be doing this good. It's not even the first half of the season, yet if we were going by a w-l standings type, we would be tied for 7th. The real problem lies in the fact that the only player that is really playing that consistent is Kurt Thomas. So when Marbury and Houston are studdering, it severely hurts the team. Lets hope we can pick up the pace and "rightfully" earn a spot into the playoffs this year. He's going to be a force to be reckoned with.'''

Evans came off the bench to score a career-high 16 points, and the Sacramento Kings kept the New York Knicks wallowing in mediocrity with a 105-98 victory Tuesday night.

Webber scored 22 points, Peja Stojakovic had 21, Mike Bibby added 19 and Brad Miller 16 for the Kings, who got only two points in 29 minutes from starting shooting guard Doug Christie.

Evans, a 6-foot-5 swingman who was used sparingly by Minnesota two years ago before playing professionally in Italy, made up for what Christie failed to provide.

He shot 7-for-9 from the field to surpass his previous career high of 13 set three games earlier against Golden State, and Sacramento won for the eighth time in its last nine road games and gained its first victory at Madison Square Garden in nearly a decade.

``I'm a confident person, and I came here to try to contribute something,'' said Evans, who has stepped into Bobby Jackson's role as the Kings' first energy player coming off the bench. Jackson is out for the remainder of the season after undergoing wrist surgery.

Evans drew the defensive assignment on Knicks point guard Stephon Marbury in the fourth quarter, helping hold New York's leading scorer to just one point over the final 12 minutes.

``I just tried to do the best I could to stay in front of him and make him shoot over me, and I think my length kind of bothered him a little bit,'' said Evans, whose worldwide career high was 36 points in Benetton Treviso's playoff victory last season over Skipper Bologna.

``He really came in and gave them some energy,'' Knicks forward Jerome Williams said. ``He got to the basket, got fouls, he was tough. He's a player, in terms of their weapons, that doesn't get mentioned as much.''

Marbury led the Knicks with 26 points, Nazr Mohammed added 22 and Allan Houston scored a season-high 21.

Prior to the game, Knicks team president Isiah Thomas said he was more than happy with the way his team has performed this season. The loss dropped New York's record to 16-15, though they still lead the weak Atlantic Division.

The loss was the Knicks second straight, continuing a season-long cycle in which each of their steps forward has been followed by a step in the opposite direction.

``Unfortunately, that's the cycle of the climb,'' Thomas said. ``You don't go from the bottom to the top. There's always intermediate steps. Right now, we're probably what our record indicates -- a little bit better than .500, a little bit above average, but I don't think we're at the top of the league or the top of the climb.''

New York allowed two dunks, two layups and a wide-open 3-pointer during a 12-0 run to start the second quarter that gave Sacramento a 34-21 lead, but the Knicks caught the Kings by opening the second half with a 23-9 run to go ahead 66-65.

Marbury scored 17 points in the third quarter, and New York trailed 81-79 entering the fourth.

The final quarter was tight throughout, Sacramento taking a 98-93 lead when Evans got ahead of the field for an uncontested dunk following a miss from inside by Tim Thomas.

A jumper by Kurt Thomas made it a three-point game, but Webber and Miller scored the next four points to lock up the victory, Sacramento's 10th in 11 games against Eastern Conference opponents.

This is one of the 2 games we have lost since the new year has come to pass. Lets see if we can't get rid of the brief curse and pull away from the others. GO KNICKS!

Crawford on the Injured list and we pull of the win

From sports.yahoo.com:

Playing back-to-back nights has been a struggle for the New York Knicks this season, at least until Monday night.

The Knicks, taking on an Orlando Magic team coming off a five-day rest, had the fresher legs from start to finish in rolling to a 119-111 victory. New York posted season-highs in points and assists (29) and tied its season high in field goals (46).

The Knicks, who beat Charlotte 91-82 at home Sunday, swept a back-to-back situation for the first time this season. Overall, they are 9-9 this year in games played on consecutive nights.

``We knew Orlando was going to push it so we took the opportunity to just push it right back at them,'' said Knicks forward Kurt Thomas, who had 14 points and nine rebounds. ``I don't think they really expected that.''

Guard Allan Houston agreed.

``We really mixed it up well,'' said Houston, who had 15 points. ``I think that's one of the things we have to do in order to go to the next level. We have to evaluate what we have out there and use everyone's strengths.''

Magic coach Johnny Davis was surprised his team was outworked early in the game, especially after practicing just twice during the five days since their last game.

``There is a always a chance you can get a little stale or out of rhythm, but it's not like we were off for two weeks or something,'' Davis said. ``We just didn't have the intensity level you need to start a game. We were trying to get into it and New York was already in it.''

That definitely was the case for Knicks point guard Stephon Marbury, who bounced back from a 3-for-11 shooting game against Charlotte to hit 13 of 21 shots and score 34 points. Marbury had 21 points in the first half when New York moved out to a 71-54 lead.

The Knicks shot 60 percent from the field in their biggest first half since 1991 against New Jersey. It also was the most points against Orlando in a half this season.

``If I didn't come back and play better than I did last night, I felt like I was going to kill myself,'' said Marbury, who also had seven assists. ``This is going to be me from here on out.

``We really moved the ball well and went through our options tonight. It's always fun when the ball moves like this.''

The Knicks scored the first nine points, but really took over in the second quarter when they hit 17 of 25 shots. New York's guard trio of Marbury, Houston and Moochie Norris were a combined 11-of-14 in the quarter, with all but one of the shots coming from beyond 15 feet.

The Magic didn't get the deficit under 10 points until the middle of the fourth quarter. They eventually closed the gap to 100-94 on a fallaway jumper by rookie Jameer Nelson with 8:41 left, but Marbury made a 3-pointer that keyed a 7-1 run by the Knicks that increased their lead to 107-95. The closest Orlando came after that was six points.

``I don't care who you play, when a team is shooting and making every shot like the Knicks were, it's rough,'' said Magic point guard Steve Francis, who led his team with 25 points. ``New York just played a marvelous game. Their offense was really clicking.''

Cuttino Mobley had 24 points and Grant Hill 17 for the Magic, who lost for the third time in 12 home games this season.

``That was an uncharacteristic performance for us at home,'' Hill said. ``When you get in as big a hole as we were at halftime, you have to almost be perfect the last 24 minutes. We've got to play better defense at the start of games.''

Its good that we are finally starting to get back in the groove of things, but oddly enough it is after one our players got injured last Sunday before the game that we won against the Bobcats.
From sports.yahoo.com:

Knicks guard Jamal Crawford was placed on the injured list Sunday because of a toe injury on his right foot.

New York also activated guard Jamison Brewer before its 91-82 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats.

Crawford was hurt Wednesday against Boston at the start of the third quarter. This kind of turf toe injury typically takes three to six weeks to heal. Crawford, who will miss a minimum of five games, said he will try to work out in two weeks.

In 26 starts this season, the shooting guard has averaged 19.3 points and 3.7 assists.

Brewer missed the last 10 games because of right big toe tendinitis and was put on the injured list. He is averaging 1.3 points and 10.3 minutes in four games.

High scoring, bad outcome

From sports.yahoo.com:

Kendrick Perkins had already shattered his career high for rebounds, and he was feeling pretty good about it.

So when he got the ball in the lane in the fourth quarter of Boston's 114-109 victory over the New York Knicks on Wednesday night, he skipped the chance to pass it to star Paul Pierce and took the shot himself. He missed badly.

``Doc called me over and said, 'Perk, let me introduce you to your teammate: This is Paul Pierce,' `` Perkins said of his scolding by coach Doc Rivers. ``I said, 'My bad, coach. I just got caught up in the moment.' ``

Posting career-highs of 13 rebounds and 25 minutes -- his previous highs were three and eight -- Perkins and the rest of the Boston bench helped hold off the Knicks. Marcus Banks scored 11 -- all in the fourth -- while playing the entire quarter along with fellow reserves Walter McCarty and Ricky Davis.

``It was a dilemma for me because you have Gary Payton sitting on the bench. We know who he is,'' Rivers said. ``I just looked at Marcus, he has been struggling of late. He'd been playing great. ... I said, 'You know what, I'm going to stick with him. And if we can get through this game with him in the game, this might mean something later.' ``

And that was fine with Payton.

``I said, 'Don't worry about me. Let the kid play,' `` he told Rivers. ``He's a young guy and he needed a game like this for his confidence. I thought he deserved to be out there.''

Banks, a 6-foot-2 point guard, also blocked two shots for Boston, which lost to the Heat on Tuesday even though Miami was playing without Shaquille O'Neal.

``I've got a lot of learning to do, which makes it understandable if they don't want me in at the end of the game,'' Banks said. ``I'm playing behind a Hall of Famer in G.P., who I'm trying to learn a lot from.''

Mark Blount scored 22 points and Pierce had 21 as Boston beat the Knicks for the 11th time in 14 games.

Nazr Mohammed had 22 points and 18 rebounds, Jamal Crawford scored 25 and Stephon Marbury had 12 points and 10 assists for the Knicks, who were hoping to bounce back from Tuesday's 123-94 loss to the Dallas Mavericks. But the Knicks blew a 14-point, first quarter lead.

``I just honestly feel like we played as hard as we possibly could, especially coming back from a 40-point loss,'' Marbury said. ``Things just didn't go our way.''

Crawford injured his right big toe in the third quarter when Jiri Welsch stepped on it. Crawford is expected to have X-rays on Thursday.

The game matched the two top teams in the woeful Atlantic Division, where the Knicks hold a half-game lead despite a 13-13 record.

The Knicks led by 14 in the first and 10 in the third before the Celtics scored eight consecutive points to tie it 74-all with 3:53 left in the quarter. New York still led 84-80 at the start of the fourth quarter when McCarty hit a 3-pointer and then stole the ball from Jerome Williams to set up Davis' 18-footer that gave the Celtics the lead.

Banks made two quick baskets for Boston, and the Celtics led 89-87 when Davis drove for a dunk and then Pierce hit a 3-pointer from the left side to make it a seven-point lead, forcing the Knicks to call timeout.

But Banks followed that with a steal and a pair of free throws, then Davis made a great steal and saved the ball from going out of bounds. That set up Pierce's dunk on a fast-break pass from Banks to give Boston a 98-87 lead.

After a 15-footer from Kurt Thomas, who played most of the game in foul trouble, McCarty hit another 3 to give Boston a 12-point lead -- its biggest of the game.

New York made it 112-109 in the final seconds on Tim Thomas' 3-pointer, but Banks made two free throws with eight seconds left to ice it.

It was the second time in five days the Celtics rallied from at least 14 points to win. They trailed Cleveland by 16 on Saturday before winning.

We show our stuff in OT

From sports.yahoo.com:

Allan Houston would rather be taking the clutch shots than thinking about them. After missing most of the season coming back from an injury, Houston made one of the biggest baskets yet for New York.

``Sitting around watching, you picture yourself making big shots,'' he said.

Houston hit the tying 3-pointer with 0.4 seconds left in regulation, Kurt Thomas scored six points in overtime, and the New York Knicks rallied from a 19-point deficit to beat the Philadelphia 76ers 113-107 on Friday night.

``Allan Houston's shot is money. That's why we got him the ball,'' Thomas said.

Thomas opened overtime with a basket, and the Sixers never led again. Jerome Williams had a three-point play, and Thomas and Jamaal Crawford sealed the win with four free throws in the final 22 seconds.

Stephon Marbury led the Knicks with 27 points, Houston had 15, Williams 13, and Thomas 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Kenny Thomas scored a season-high 26 points, and Allen Iverson had 24 for Philadelphia, which had a three-game winning streak snapped.

``We just collapsed. It's as simple as that,'' Iverson said.

After playing only six minutes in the first three quarters, Jerome Williams played the entire fourth quarter and scored eight points. Stephon Marbury scored 10 points in the fourth and made some clutch baskets down the stretch, giving Houston a chance.

Houston, who shot an airball on a three-miss possession on the Knicks' previous trip, delivered with a 3-pointer from the right side with time running out, tying the score 100-all.

``It's a situation I love to be in,'' said Houston, who spent the first five weeks of the season on the injured list rehabilitating a left knee injury.

With a three-point lead, the Sixers never tried fouling and Andre Iguodala got caught up underneath on a screen, giving Houston some space. New York coach Lenny Wilkens said he was surprised how open Houston was.

``To have a lead and to have it dissipate hurts as much as it can,'' Sixers coach Jim O'Brien said. ``It's not a good feeling, I can assure you of that.''

The Sixers had erased an 18-point second-half deficit in a win against Denver on Tuesday.

The Sixers led 90-71 early in the fourth before the Knicks scored 10 straight points to start their run.

Williams made a twisting layup through the lane, and Marbury had a basket to make it 92-85.

Philadelphia clung to a 99-93 lead on Kyle Korver's running jumper with 1:38 left in regulation.

Marbury, though, beat Willie Green on a crossover, spun around another defender and scored on a nice underhand layup. He also made two free throws with 52 seconds left that made it 99-97.

``I would credit Marbury's aggressiveness,'' O'Brien said. ``When he gets in the paint, you have to be ready to step up. You need to keep Marbury in front of you and we did not.''

Green made one of two free throws with 4.6 seconds left, giving the Knicks just enough time to get off one last shot.

Houston, still being slowly worked into the rotation, had enough time to get off the 3-pointer. He went 3-for-6 from 3-point range.

Marbury and Williams combined to go 14-for-26 from the floor, and the Knicks shot 42 percent overall. The Knicks made 34 of 36 free throws; the Sixers were just 17-for-27.

Green finished with 14 points for the Sixers, Marc Jackson added 13, and Andre Iguodala had 11.

The Sixers -- who went ahead in the second quarter -- didn't trail again until the first basket of overtime

Marbury and Houston really stepped up this game, showing everyone what we are made of this year. We are finally starting to pull ahead of the pack and we are setting the foundation of a winning season. Lets hope we can keep up the good work and that Houston can further improve. The second one was an ugly short-arm that had no chance of going in.

``I was mad,'' teammate Gilbert Arenas said. ``But I couldn't show him I was mad.''

Haywood turned mad to glad in a hurry. He grabbed a rebound and converted a three-point play with 7.1 seconds remaining Friday night, giving Washington a 106-104 victory over the New York Knicks.

``A big play,'' Arenas said. ``I told him I was going to give him $10,000 in gift certificates.''

``Knowing Gilbert,'' responded Haywood, the team's runaway miser, ``he'll give me $10,000 in gift certificates to Victoria's Secret. That's the type of guy he is.''

Haywood's heroics came on his team's 27th offensive rebound, tied for the most in an NBA game this season. Antawn Jamison had 25 points and 13 rebounds for the Wizards, who have won five of six.

Arenas had 20 points and seven assists. All the Washington starters reached double figures early in the third quarter during an entertaining game of fast breaks, dunks and flashy moves.

Haywood finished with 17 points and 14 rebounds, but nearly pulled another fourth-quarter disappearing act. He was scoreless in the second half before his game-winning three-point play.

``Missing those free throws really hurt. ... You have to keep your mind clear, because you never know how it's going to come back,'' Haywood said. ``Tonight it just came back on me, and I was able to make the play. I've been saying it for a whole year: I want to play in the fourth, so I might as well do something when I'm in there.''

The Knicks were more upset over another play by Haywood. The Wizards center blocked Stephon Marbury's short jumper as the ball was on the way down with 41 seconds left. The official ruled that the ball was going to fall short of the rim, so no goaltending was called.

``Yeah, he did goaltend it,'' Marbury said. ``The ball was up in the air going down. They didn't call it. There's nothing you can do about it. It's not like we're playing CYO and you can protest the game. You've just got to live with it.''

After Haywood's three-point play, New York had two final chances to tie, but Nazr Mohammed missed a tough shot in traffic and Kurt Thomas failed to put in the rebound as time expired.

``I got a good look at it and missed the shot,'' Mohammed said. ``Besides an open layup, you can't ask for a better shot. I got a wide open shot within a foot in the paint.''

Mohammed finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Marbury had 18 points and seven assists. The Knicks have lost four of five and has fallen below .500, although they remain in first place in the Atlantic Division.

``They had 27 offensive rebounds, that's sickening,'' Mohammed said. ``As far as being the big man on this team, I hate when we give up one offensive rebound.''

Allan Houston, playing his first game of the season after recovering from a knee injury, scored eight points in 19 minutes.

``As it goes on, I'll get a little more comfortable,'' Houston said. ``But for the first time out I was a little more comfortable than I thought I would be.''

The Knicks shot 61 percent through three quarters but just 32 percent in the fourth, blowing an eight-point lead with nine minutes to play.

Arenas had a steal and dunk, a 3-pointer and an assist in a 10-0 run that put the Wizards ahead 99-97 with 3:55 to play, their first lead since the first quarter. Marbury made a tough layup to tie the game at 101, and a 3-pointer by Tim Thomas put New York in front, but the Knicks did not score again.

It hasnt been a bad season so far, but I want us to get out of the win then loss, win then loss groove. It isn't exactly hurting us for the time being, but soon , the big dogs will seperate themselves, which will take more wins. But atleast we just got Houston back. With him we are 1-0 this season, so maybe he is a difference or maybe ti is a coincidence. Either way lets make it 2 Knicks!

Revenge..

From sports.yahoo.com:

The Knicks received great performances from all five starters. The Raptors certainly did not.

On a day of season-highs for several New York players, Jamal Crawford scored 30 points, Stephon Marbury had 15 assists and Tim Thomas scored 17 in a 108-102 victory Saturday over Toronto.

The totals for Crawford, Marbury and Thomas were all personal bests for the young season, and starters Nazr Mohammed and Kurt Thomas reached double figures in both points and rebounds as the Knicks avenged a 23-point loss to the Raptors three days earlier.

``This is definitely a sweet win. That's the great thing about the NBA, we get to play them three days later. We were kind of licking our chops a bit,'' Crawford said.

The Knicks were comfortably ahead throughout the second half until Morris Peterson and Vince Carter hit 3-pointers and Peterson was fouled on a 3-point attempt, making all three foul shots to close Toronto to 103-100 with 54 seconds left.

A missed jumper by Penny Hardaway was followed by a driving layup from Jalen Rose, completing an 11-0 run for Toronto and making it a one-point game.

Crawford hit a pair from the line with 20 seconds left, and Carter missed a driving left-handed runner. Two free throws by Hardaway with 13.4 seconds left clinched the victory, New York's fifth straight at home.

Marbury had 18 points, Mohammed added 19 points and 10 rebounds and Kurt Thomas contributed 12 points, 11 rebounds and four steals.

``We did a good job of moving the ball and getting everyone involved,'' Crawford said. ``We weren't out of character, and the shots came.''

Tim Thomas' effort came after he failed to reach double figures in nine of New York's first 11 games, including the previous five.

``I'm just trying to get back into it mentally overall,'' he said. ``This is not a one-game thing. It's a long season, and mentally right now I'm just trying to get back in the groove of things.''

Carter led Toronto with 19 points and Peterson added 18. Starting point guard Rafer Alston was benched for most of the second half and had just two points and three assists, while Jalen Rose had eight points, no assists and five turnovers.

Toronto's reserves combined for 51 points, the same total as the starters. Milt Palacio had 14 points, eight assists, five rebounds and three steals, and Matt Bonner shot 6-of-7 for 12 points.

Despite the struggles by the starters, a recurring theme for the Raptors through the season's first 14 games, coach Sam Mitchell said he was not inclined to make any major changes.

``Sooner or later it's going to click in,'' Mitchell said. ``I'm trying to figure it out, and I'm trying to put the onus on them to figure it out.''
We got another win and it is still a 50-50 season. We are currently playing Atlanta and it looks to be a pretty close game. If our starters continue to play like they did, we will have a winning season. And it has been recently released that Allan Houston is back to practicing which means that his return grows closer and closer. I hope when he does come back that he is in full form and ready to play, because we need him to complete our offensive team. Lets wish Houston a speedy recovery and cheer the Knicks on to a win tonight!

Its not pretty, but we are at the top

The drastic roster change this season seems to be paying off...I guess. We have been 3-2 since my last post, and we managed to take the lead in the Atlantic Division. It may be because all the teams are struggling in our division for the time being, but we'll take it. Also, Moochie Norris has been placed on the Injured list and has been replaced by Brewer who is now coming back from an Injury. Although, since Norris has been on the injured list, we have been 2-0. Almost the whole roster has been changed, but we have yet to see the result. We are 2-3 on the season thus far and battering by the Celtics was by far the worst so far. The game was no glamour show on either side of the court for us.
From sports.yahoo.com:

``I would have booed, too, if I was a fan. The way we played tonight we deserved to get booed,'' Stephon Marbury said. ``We were terrible. In all areas of playing basketball we were bad tonight. Everything that entails going into winning a basketball game, we had none of it.''

Like Mr. Marbury said, we just played terrible on both offense in defense. We allowed the Celtics to shoot 56%.

On another note, Eddie Robinson failed is physical and has to undergo surgery. And Shandon Anderson has been waived after a long deliberation period with the goal set on getting rid of Anderson.

Lets see if we can't get the adrenaline pumping. On a worse note Allan Houston will be starting the season off on the injured list...
The New York Knicks placed guards Allan Houston and Jamison Brewer and center Bruno Sundov on the injured list Monday.

Houston will start the season on the injured list because of chronic pain in his left knee. He sat out the final 32 games of the regular season and the playoffs last season with knee pain. He averaged 18.5 points for the Knicks, who were swept by the New Jersey Nets in the first round.

Houston, who joined the Knicks in 1996, averaged a career-high 22.5 points in 2002-03.

Brewer has a sprained right big toe and Sundov right Achilles' tendinitis.

The Knicks open the season Wednesday night at Minnesota.

This of course is not going to help us when we face the T-Wolves and KG but I think we can pull together and get the T-Wolves beat. We have started out 3-3 which isn't bad but it wont get us to the Finals. To give you kind of an idea whats been going on in the offseason from the perspective of a write at sports.yahoo.com:

How many balls will this team need to keep everyone happy? Stephon Marbury and Jamal Crawford will be shooting jumpers from all over New York City, and coach Lenny Wilkens also has to find enough shots for Allan Houston, Tim Thomas, Vin Baker and Kurt Thomas.
If Wilkens can figure it out, the Knicks could win the weak Atlantic Division, but this roster looks to be overloaded with guys who need the ball. It will be very interesting to watch this club.

If we don't want another season like the last, we will have to get the ball in our possesion and more often. We have the skills we just need the defense to back it up. As far as drafts go, Trevor Ariza is our only rookie this year, and we have yet to see him in action. And we have pretty much the same roster aside from aquiring Tracy Murray, the league veteran of the team. All I can hope for is for us to have a good season so lets get it started strong Knicks!

New Knicks blog

Hi everyone, I hope you'll come back and see my blog once I've started posting regularly for the 2004-05 season.
